Schools across Michigan track energy, water and greenhouse gas.
Wednesday, February 03, 2010
Energy Works Michigan recently chose Planet Footprint to monitor, report and benchmark energy and water usage for 66 schools across Michigan as part of its Michigan Renewable Schools Program (MRSP). Planet Footprint's Energy and Environmental Scorekeeping Service will provide historical and ongoing cost, consumption and greenhouse gas reporting. School facility managers, principals and students will be able to use this information to understand current energy and water performance of their schools, and then track improvements over time.
"We chose Planet Footprint because it offered a complete service at the most competitive price", said Emile Lauzzana, Project Director at Energy Works Michigan. "Many providers expected schools or District staff to collect and enter their own data, while others quoted astronomical consulting rates for a complete service."
"Planet Footprint's goal is to free people up from the drudgery of data collection, measurement and reporting so they can get on with saving energy, water and money.", said Planet Footprint's President, Dean Jackson. "The MSRP is an excellent opportunity for schools to save energy and money. We're really excited to know that Energy Works Michigan and school staff will maximize energy and costs savings through he MRSP, knowing that fundamental monitoring and reporting has been taken care of for them at minimal cost."
Planet Footprint will provide everything from managed data collection and entry of electricity, gas and water utility bills, through to benchmarking and profiling. Benchmarking allows schools to compare their performance with others in Michigan, as wel as nationally and internationally. Each school will have an online profile to share it's success and learn about what other schools are doing to improve energy and water efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Planet Footprint provides Energy and Environmental Scorekeeping in a range of sectors but has a firm focus on local government, including school districts.
The MRSP will provide 40 schools with investment grade energy efficiency audits, action plans and matching funds for efficiency improvements. The program is also providing Solar PV and/or Wind systems at 23 schools.
"Planet Footprint has already started working with the first 25n MRSP schools", said Dean Jackson. "We''l have their baseline and ongoing reporting happening within the next few weeks".
