Linking heating and cooling systems to an energy management system has allowed us to minimize energy usage during low or no occupancy times as well as monitor and adjust temperatures according to conditions.
Teachers are very conscientious of turning everything off in classrooms after school has been dismissed for the day. In classrooms with multiple student computers as well as the Media Center, computers are powered down by staff at the end of each school day. All computers in the Media Center are shut off when not in use.
Janitorial staff is on site from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays. Their typical procedure is to turn on lights as necessary as they move through the building. As each room is cleaned, they are responsible for turning the lights off.
Property Description:
The Grant High School building was constructed in 1962 followed by documented additions in 1989, 1991, and 2001. The last major renovation was in 2000. The building is single story, with approximately 133,400 square feet of floor area.
The original 1962 portion of the building, the 1989 classroom infill, and the 1991 and 2001 classroom additions all have brick veneer on a masonry bearing wall system. The majority of the spaces have a concrete deck roof structure. The 2001 classroom addition has a steel deck roof system. Interior walls are concrete masonry units and limited locations with gypsum board partitions. The greenhouse addition is an insulated glass and aluminum framing system set on a masonry knee wall with brick veneer.
General occupancy is 7:00 A.M. through 3:00 p.m. throughout the building. There are currently 683 students in grades 9-12, with 32 teachers.
